Copilot arrives: Microsoft’s new assistant based on artificial intelligence

Copilot is the name of the new Microsoft assistant that is very reminiscent of the well-known Clippy. Clippy 2.0 will be based on artificial intelligence and, according to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, will be able to produce documents, e-mails, among others.

For those who remember Clippy, it worked as an assistant for Office applications and was very useful for users who were not yet familiar with Microsoft tools. Clippy was retired with the release of Windows XP in 2001.

Like Clippy, Microsoft 365 Copilot will be an assistant for Windows 11. Its name comes from the fact that it will be a real co-pilot to help people with all kinds of tasks.

The main feature of Copilot is that it will integrate different applications for a complete assistance to users. In this way, you can schedule events that you have received by e-mail in the calendar or search for information in Bing that has been requested by Teams.

What are the features of Copilot, Microsoft’s new assistant?

According to what Microsoft informed, this assistant allows to unify the web, the user’s documents and the utilities it offers so that it can solve people’s daily life.

It will be located in the taskbar for easy access.

One of the most interesting features offered by Copilot is Microsoft 365 Chat. This tool has access to all labor-related documentation to provide complete assistance to users. Some of its functions are:

Summarize inbox: Microsoft 365 chat can make a brief summary of the day’s emails. In this way, the user can find out if he/she has something urgent to solve and concentrate only on what is necessary. The interesting thing about this tool is that, by using artificial intelligence, it can differentiate which messages are urgent and which are not.

Recommends topics based on conversations: another feature of this tool is that it can suggest recommendations based on conversations the user has had in other applications. You can also draw up tables if necessary to summarize the discussions, and even offer recommendations on any decisions that need to be made.

Conduct research on any topic: Microsoft 365 Copilot can also do some market research or any type of research that requires collecting and analyzing information.

New Microsot assistant could also make mistakes

According to Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s CEO, one of the advantages of the tool is that it can collect information from different sites. However, he also clarified that this assistant will sometimes be right, but at other times may give incorrect answers. It must be considered that this is an imprecise technology.

In addition to Copilot, there will be other new features in Windows 11. The Paint application will also be improved with the use of artificial intelligence, as will Photos. Notepad will allow automatic saving, while the new Outlook will connect different accounts. In this application there will also be a place for artificial intelligence and it will provide the user with assistance in writing e-mails and attaching files.
