The new Whatsapp update includes interesting new features with some highly requested functions by users. That’s not all, as the popular messaging application is working on new features that will arrive in the coming months.
It seems that the Meta application wants to renew itself, so there are many new functions that are already available or that will be incorporated soon. One of the most important is the possibility of editing messages already sent and blocking chats, which will prevent anyone from accessing a conversation in the application.
Other new features being developed include unique usernames to be used instead of telephone numbers and the addition of newsletters for groups.
Editing messages: the Whatsapp feature that many have been waiting for
One of the new features that is already available and that was claimed by many Whatsapp users is the ability to edit messages already sent. Although the possibility of deleting messages was added some time ago, they could not be edited. This feature is now available on Android and iOS. It has been under development since June 2022 and was enabled for Beta users, but is now available to everyone.
It should be noted that it is not necessary to use any external application, just update Whatsapp to the latest version. It should also be noted that you can only edit messages up to 15 minutes after they have been sent. The steps to follow to edit a message are as follows:
- Select the message sent
- Click on the three dots in the upper right corner.
- Select the Edit option and correct the message.
- Resend
Although it is an application that is already available, there may be a delay on some smartphones, which will have to wait a few weeks to use this feature.
Blocking chats: your Whatsapp conversations protected
Another Whatsapp feature but not yet available is the blocking of conversations. It is expected for the next updates and will enable the option to lock any chat to be unlocked only with fingerprint or password. This will give more privacy to conversations, as it will prevent anyone from easily accessing private chats. This function is enabled for use in both group and individual conversations.
Portrait mode is another interesting feature of Whatsapp that will be useful for those who use the messaging app for work-related video calls. This function will be enabled only for iPhone and will be used to blur the background in a video call. It will be very useful when there is no suitable background and users have to make an important video call, for example, at work. In this way, people’s faces will be highlighted and the background will have a blurred effect.
To enable portrait mode, simply log in to the iPhone camera, open the Control Center and select the Portrait Mode option to enable it. When logging into Whatsapp to make a video call, the blurred background can be displayed without having to enable any other option in the application.
